PM welcomes Peru setting up embassy in Vietnam after 21 years of diplomatic relations and indicates Vietnam may soon do likewise in Lima.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung met with H.E. Carlos Berninzon, Ambassador of Peru to Vietnam, at the government's headquarters yesterday afternoon to mark the opening of the country's embassy in Vietnam.
The PM said during the meeting that Vietnam and Peru have solid bilateral relations and are seeing positive developments in various spheres of cooperation, especially in economics, trade, and investment. It is considering the possibility of opening an embassy in the Peruvian capital of Lima sometime in the future.
Vietnam currently has investment projects in Peru, in oil and gas as well as telecoms, and two-way trade reached $300 million last year.
As the first Ambassador of Peru to Vietnam, Ambassador Berninzon said he felt honored and wished to promote further cooperation with Vietnam in all respects.
He greatly appreciated the investments PetroVietnam and Viettel have made in his home country and looks forward to a large Vietnamese business delegation visiting Peru in August to attend an international food exhibition and explore cooperative opportunities.
The Ambassador also suggested that the two countries work together in preparations for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forums, as Peru will host APEC 2016 and Vietnam APEC 2017.
