Export of phone and phone components highest in first half of January, outpacing textiles and garments.
The latest figures from the General Department of Vietnam Customs show that phone and phone components led the way in exports in the first half of January, with turnover reaching $1.06 billion.
Textiles and garments were second, with export turnover of $886 million, followed by computers and components with $584 million.
Total turnover from exports and imports stood at $12.11 billion, an increase of 1.5 per cent against the same period last year. Export turnover was $5.95 billion, up 3.6 per cent, while import turnover was $6.17 billion, down 0.5 per cent.
Last year car imports reached the highest level ever, with 125,600 units worth $2.99 billion.
Cars of nine seats or less totaled 51,460 units, up 63 per cent compared to 2014, while those of nine seats or more totaled 1,250 units, up 34 per cent, trucks totaled 49,000 units, up 79.6 per cent, and other vehicles totaled 23,940 units, up 114 per cent.
The main import sources were China, with 26,740 units, South Korea 26,570 units, India 25,150 units, and Thailand 25,140 units. The number of cars of nine seats or less imported from India reached 25,000 units, accounting for 49 per cent of the total.
