NA agreed to relieve President Truong Tan Sang of Presidency with a ballot to select his replacement being held on April 2.
The National Assembly (NA) agreed to relieve State President Truong Tan Sang on the afternoon of March 31 and the new President is to be elected by secret ballot on April 2.
General Tran Dai Quang, Politburo Member and the Minister of Public Security, has been nominated for the position of State President. General Quang was born on October 12, 1956 and currently serves as an NA delegate.
On March 31 Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan was elected as NA Chairwoman, becoming the first woman to hold the position. She replaced Mr. Nguyen Sinh Hung, who stepped down from the post one day earlier.
Elections of senior leaders are the key agenda item of this eleventh and final session of NA XIII.
