US Secretary of State expresses hope of continuing cooperation in education with Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam.
US Secretary of State John Kerry underlined education cooperation with Vietnam in general and with Fulbright University Vietnam in particular during a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam on August 7.
The Deputy Prime Minister stressed that Vietnam and the US have had fruitful and comprehensive cooperation in many fields, with that in the area of education and science and technology having significant potential for further progress.
Secretary Kerry confirmed the US’s determination to help Vietnam develop its education sector. The collaboration between the Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh City and the University of California (Los Angeles), he added, had given both sides a great deal of experience and he anticipated seeing similar cooperative efforts in the future.
The two also discussed the future opening of the Fulbright University Vietnam, the country’s first private, non-profit higher education institution, which received in-principle approval in June. The University will be based on the Fulbright Economics Teaching Program, established in Ho Chi Minh City in 1994 and since affiliated with Harvard’s Vietnam program.
