PM calls on National Committee for APEC 2017 to ensure preparations are in order.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has requested the National Committee for APEC 2017 to quickly and thoroughly prepare for Vietnam hosting the event.
He stressed that APEC is an economic forum of great importance for Vietnam as the country has set up strategic and comprehensive partnerships with 13 APEC members and has signed or is engaging in negotiations on free trade agreements with 13 of the 15 APEC members.
Vietnam is to host some 100 conferences, including 20 ministerial conferences and the APEC Leaders Week, attended by international friends and 1,000 business representatives from Asia-Pacific and other regions.
Given its scale and importance, the Prime Minister asked that the preparatory tasks and the overall work program of the Committee and each subcommittee be clearly defined. “As host we must prepare thoroughly, including agendas, protocols and logistics, in order to improve the profile of APEC while promoting the image, culture and people of Vietnam,” he added.
APEC Year 2017 will be a linchpin in Vietnam’s foreign policy to 2020 and a new step forward in the country’s international integration process, the PM said. It is not merely a multi-lateral economic forum but also an opportunity for Vietnam to conduct bilateral diplomatic activities.
He believes Vietnam will successfully organize the APEC Year 2017, leaving a good impression on its international friends.
