Discussions to focus on PPPs and Vietnam Airlines' equitization.
A meeting between Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang and Mr. Tony Blair was announced by the Ministry of Transport (MoT) in the Minister’s working program for March 3. Asia’s chief of representative of Tony Blair Associates (TBA) earlier sent a proposal seeking a meeting on sharing TBA’s work plans in Vietnam. The matters of interest for the two sides are the Dau Giay - Phan Thiet Highway project and the Vietnam Airlines equitization.
The Dau Giay - Phan Thiet Highway project is a pilot project of the government regarding the implementation of Public - Private Partnerships (PPPs).
In the middle of last year the PPP was recommended by Mr. Blair when he visited Vietnam.
After a conference on global investment trends and advice for Vietnam, where Mr. Blair was a speaker, his office sent a number of advisors to leaders of the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) in order to speed up potential projects under the PPP model.
During Mr. Blair’s visit this week he and Minister of Planning and Investment Bui Quang Vinh will lead a conference on the new role of State-owned enterprises.
Along with PPPs, the Vietnam Airlines’ equitization is also on the agenda, as the carrier plans to sell 282 million shares to strategic partners after receiving VND6.3 trillion ($300 million) from its IPO last year.
Last July, in a meeting with the PM, Mr. Blair affirmed his willingness to support and share his experience with Vietnam in many areas, such as attracting foreign investment, coping with climate change, developing the PPP model, and promoting education and training.
