The Hanoi People's Committee has approved a project for an underground parking station in Thong Nhat Park with total investment capital of up to VND96 billion ($4.5 million).
A three-storey underground parking station of 10,000 square meters is to be built in Thong Nhat Park, under a proposal from the Hanoi Parking Company. On December 12 Mr. Nguyen Quoc Hung, Deputy Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, requested that the report be examined prior implementation.
The Hanoi Parking Company has proposed city authorities assign the land plot at 195 Le Duan Street in Hai Ba Trung district for the parking station. The construction plan includes criteria for land use, with each storey having an area of 5,600 square meters able to park 390 motor cars. On ground level the green area is 7,585 square meters, with a road area of 2,230 square meters and an ancillary area of 266 square meters.
In 2009 the land at 195 Le Duan was the site of a planned five-star hotel called the Hanoi Royal. Many local people, however, disagreed with the building of a hotel and the project was stopped.
