Two countries officially establish diplomatic relations at the UN on September 24.
Prior the United Nations Summit 2015 from September 25 to September 27 in New York (local time), Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh witnessed the signing of a joint communiqué on establishing diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Comoros.
The communiqué was inked by Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga, Head of the Vietnam Mission to the UN, and Ambassador Mohamed Soilihi Soilih, Head of the Comoros’s Permanent Mission to the UN. The two sides agreed to exchange diplomatic representatives at the ambassadorial level and apply the 1961 Vienna Convention on diplomatic relations.
The Comoros is an island nation located in the east of Africa, in the Indian Ocean. Its population is nearly 800,000 and it has a total area of over 2,000 sq km.
The establishment of diplomatic ties with the Comoros increases the number of countries Vietnam has official relations with to 186.
