With the theme “Strengthening Regional and International Economic Connectivity”, the 27th Vietnam International Trade Fair (Vietnam Expo 2017) officially opened on April 19 at the International Exhibition Fair Center in Hanoi and will run until April 22.

Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Quoc Khanh said that Vietnam Expo 2017 has attracted the participation of more than 500 enterprises with nearly 600 booths from 16 cities and provinces in the country and 23 countries and territories around the world.

This year the Expo has the active participation of South Korea, as special guest. Mr. Khanh said that this positive contribution by South Korea is proof of the efforts the two countries have put into realizing commitments under the Vietnam-South Korea Free Trade Agreement signed in 2015.

Held 26 times, Vietnam Expo has become one of the largest and most important trade promotion activities for Vietnam’s industry and trade sector. It provides practical opportunities and helps Vietnamese businesses increase exports and develop the domestic market.

“Vietnam Expo is an attractive and effective playground for foreign businesses to enter the Vietnamese market as well as for domestic enterprises to seek partners and business cooperation,” Mr. Khanh said. Products displayed at the fair are concentrated into the following categories: machinery, equipment, construction, and construction materials; electricity, electronics, and information technology; materials; food and beverages; appliances; and healthcare.

South Korea is Vietnam’s third-largest trading partner and the largest foreign investor in the country, with total registered capital of $50 billion as at 2016.

Organizers said there will be a “Vietnam - South Korea Product Design and Development Booth”, with typical products from enterprises in the two countries. These products are of good quality as well as focused on development investment in terms of design, thereby enhancing product value and affirming brand value.

Three typical Vietnamese companies were selected to exhibit at the booth: the Quang Ngai Sugar Joint Stock Company, the Vinasoy Soybean Milk Company, and the Phong Chau Company (a major exporter of Vietnamese footwear).

The South Korean side will be represented by reputable companies such as the CS Korea Company, the Samduck Company, and the DAINS Company.

Leading designers from Vietnam and South Korea will provide free consultations for Vietnamese enterprises in product design and development, according to Mr. Park Chul Ho, General Director of KOTRA Hanoi, sharing ideas and design innovations to enhance product value and contribute to business expansion and development.
