Vietnam to host World Economic Forum on ASEAN 2018

Forum to be held in Hanoi from September 11 to 13.

Vietnam will host the World Economic Forum on ASEAN 2018 (WEF ASEAN 2018) in Hanoi from September 11 to 13, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son announced at a press conference on June 27.

Mr. Son emphasized that the conference, with the theme “ASEAN 4.0: Entrepreneurship and the Fourth Industrial Revolution”, will feature entrepreneurship and Industry 4.0 to meet the common interests of ASEAN countries and others in the region while being aligned with ASEAN’s theme for 2018 of “Towards a Resilient and Innovative ASEAN Community”.

It offers a platform for government leaders and businesses to discuss and share visions, ideas, and policy orientations on the region’s big issues and boost cooperation between Vietnam and its partners and leading global corporations enhancing their investment in Vietnam, contributing actively to market openness and competitiveness in quality capital and modern technology to serve the economy’s restructuring and innovation of its growth model.

Co-hosting the press conference, WEF President Borge Brende said that Vietnam’s growth and competitive capacity are impressive and highly valued the partnership between the WEF and Vietnam.

He also said the WEF expects to boost cooperation with ASEAN in coping with challenges posed by the Industry 4.0.

The conference will include 55 discussion sessions, focusing on governments, enterprises and the people of ASEAN, such as the definition of new vision for ASEAN’s regional integration, seeking new economic and governance models in the digital era as well new driving forces and business models for ASEAN countries in the digital era, the development of smart infrastructure, and training in skills, jobs, startups and innovation.

The Vietnam Business Forum will take place on September 13 on the sidelines of the event, with the participation of regional government leaders, business representatives, and the WEF, Mr. Son said.

Earlier on the same day, the WEF President paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, met with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh, and co-chaired a roundtable on WEF ASEAN 2018.
